As Bastrop County sheriff, I will be prepared to take action from the very first day in office to make the sheriff’s office work for you. As an initial step, I am developing a list of actions to be carried out in the first 30 and 90 days. The list will be refined and updated as I seek and receive feedback from the sheriff’s office staff, local officials and residents. As you can see from the initial list below, I will be a listener as well as a doer.

  • Meet with local elected officials and community leaders to identify issues and concerns
  • Meet with staff to review expectations and identify concerns
  • Review and assess staff training to determine compliance with Texas Commission on Law Enforcement standards
  • Assess staffing and inventory equipment to determine needs
  • Identify high-crime areas and ensure adequate patrols
  • Identify traffic problem areas and ensure adequate patrols
  • Begin training on how to de-escalate potentially threatening situations
  • Begin signing up citizen posse volunteers
